It is the sort of pub which encourages you to move to Southwold — if you can afford it. Cosy and homely but bustling, popular with locals, friendly to dogs, the best place to drink Adnams’ beers in their hometown, close to the sea. Quote from “beer in the evening” Pretty near perfect. A proper pub, but family friendly. Pleasing on the eye from outside, warm and woody inside. Friendly bar staff and a landlord who actually remembers faces. Best pub in Southwold, hands down. And as other contributors have said, there are plenty of competitors here, but none can match the Nelson's cosy ambience, friendly welcome and great beer.
